All over the world, there are haunted dolls, lurking in museums or on the shelf in children’s bedrooms. They are always watching, and according to some, they are even moving. The most famous dolls have inspired horror movies, including The Conjuring and Chucky. Here, we unfold the haunted tales behind the most famous haunted dolls out there.

1. The Annabelle Doll
Arguably the most famous doll of all time is Annabelle. She is a Raggedy Ann doll who has inspired some of the greatest horror films to date, including The Conjuring and Annabelle. The doll is recognisable by her white and red dress, red hair and big evil eyes. The Warrens are paranormal investigators who took ownership over the doll, they found it to be possessed by a demonic spirit of a young girl.
The Annabelle doll has supposedly exhibited strange behaviour over the years, similar to many other haunted dolls, such as moving between rooms on its own and creating loud noises during the night. More importantly, Annabelle has a history of violence, as it is thought she is responsible for a murder.
Currently, the Warrens have the Annabelle doll displayed in a box within the occult museum in Monroe, among many other haunted items which have been collected to keep the public safe from their antics.
2. Robert The Doll
The Robert doll has a terrifying appearance, it is hard to look at him for long before your eyes start burning. Robert was the inspiration behind the Chucky doll and the following series of Chucky movies.
The story of Robert is a bit of a mystery, we know that one of his owners was Robert Eugene Otto who was an artist. It is claimed that many evil spirits have possessed the Robert doll.
The doll is displayed in the East Martello Museum in Florida. Visitors are instructed to be respectful at all times in the presence of Robert, some even choose to bless the doll in the hope that he won’t curse them. There have been reports of unexplainable incidents occurring after visitors have left the museum.
3. Pulau Ubin
There is a very deep meaning behind this doll, it was made in memory of a young girl who fell from a cliff in Pulau Ubin, Singapore. The story is that she had escaped British soldiers who captured her parents, as they were believed to be spies.
The doll is a porcelain Barbie doll, it is told that the spirit of the young girl is held within the doll. There is an annual ceremony in Pulau Ubin, and visitors often bring offerings in the hope that they will receive good blessings.
4. The Mandy Doll
Mandy is a baby doll who was made sometime between 1910 and 1920, her background is mostly unknown. Mandy is famous in Canada, she is currently being held in British Columbia, displayed at the Quesnel Museum.
The doll has a cracked face and a slight smirk which is particularly evil. She is displayed upright within a glass box, holding a small toy lamb. She has a gaze that falls on you no matter where you are standing in the room.
Previous owners have claimed to hear crying noises during the night. The museum workers have also reported strange activity, including the lamb being found outside of the box.
5. The Okiku Doll
Japan has some of the worlds scariest doll stories which are based on real-life events. Okiku is a haunted Japanese doll that was once owned by a young girl called Okiku, it was a gift from her brother. The doll has a traditional appearance, she is neatly dressed in a kimono and has long black hair.
Some years after the doll appeared, Okiku sadly died. The family were convinced that the doll held Okiku’s spirit. Especially after the doll began to move by itself, they even noticed her hair getting longer.
6. The Akodessawa Fetish Market Dolls
Lome, in the capital of Togo, West Africa, is famous for its markets. This one does not sell the typical fruit and vegetables, or clothing, the Akodessawa Fetish Market is the biggest Voodoo market to date.
The market is packed with any cursed and spiritual trinket ever created, including many haunted dolls. Other interesting items you can pick up include skulls, animal skins, and monkey heads.
