To activate the PF5, press the button once. It will start measuring magnetic fields right away. And a green LED will indicate the right-hand scale. Then, press the button one more to switch to measuring electric fields. Each press of the button will alternate between electrical and magnetic readings.

Optimize the Sensor Placement

The internal electric field sensor antenna is inside at the top. The large magnetic field coil is in the centre at the top of the back of the unit. For the highest reading, turn the PF5 to optimize the sensor placement.

We’ve conducted measurements of the electric field in front of two light bulbs. A 60-watt incandescent bulb and an equivalent energy-saving compact fluorescent lamp (CFL). The electric fields were found to be three times higher for the CFL. But due to its much higher frequency, the induced signals in your body will be around 1500 times greater.

Push and hold the button to turn off the PF5 for about 2 seconds. It will switch off after about 5 minutes to conserve battery power. The LED scales are easy to read and use and are colour-coded. When two LEDs light next to each other, the exposure level is halfway between the two.
